SAL FAROOQ, Psyd

Dr. Sal Farooq earned his Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from Pepperdine University. He is currently a Police Psychologist with LAPD’s Behavioral Science Services. Prior to this, he was a clinical psychologist and active duty Lieutenant with the US Navy, embedded with the Marine Corps in Camp Pendleton, CA. Dr. Farooq specializes in Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, familial/relational issues, and related disorders.

Aside from general short-medium term psychotherapy, his experiences have brought him proficiencies in providing psychological first-aid in deployed settings, administering batteries of intelligence and personality testing, and consulting for a wide range of medical and non-medical personnel. 

Throughout his educational and residency experiences, Dr. Farooq has had the privilege of training in federal prisons, community homeless shelters, and Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

Dr. Farooq is a Licensed Psychologist registered with the State of California (PSY35478).

Madeleine Walker, PSYD

Dr. Madeleine Walker earned her doctoral degree in clinical psychology from Pepperdine University. During her training, Dr. Walker has treated veterans who have been diagnosed with PTSD, provided services to individuals sentenced to federal custody, and supported those awaiting legal proceedings in a county hospital. She has experience with utilizing evidence based protocols that target symptoms of trauma, substance use, depression, and insomnia.

Dr. Walker’s research has focused predominately on what survivors of sexual violence say about their interactions with those in the healthcare and legal systems. She is passionate about providing services to those from marginalized communities who find themselves attempting to navigate a system that can often be overwhelming.

Dr. Walker’s experience in community settings, as well as pre- and post-adjudication settings, allows for an increased understanding of how individuals needs change as they progress through various points of the system at large.

Lauren Van Vranken, MA

Lauren Van Vranken, MA earned her Master's degree in Clinical Psychology from Fuller Theological Seminary’s School of Psychology. She is currently a doctoral candidate in the Fuller School of Psychology Psy.D. program.

Ms. Van Vranken specializes in posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety disorders, mood disorders, and severe mental illness. Aside from providing long-term psychotherapy, she administers comprehensive psychological assessments, specifically to diagnose PTSD and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). In her research, Ms. Van Vranken examines physiological processes of regulating threat and safety through the lens of polyvagal theory to create psychoeducational resources for reentry.

Ms. Van Vranken received psychological training in both VA Medical Center and State Psychiatric Hospital settings. She previously worked in prison, jail, and juvenile hall settings in Los Angeles, CA and Ecuador as a creative writing instructor, mentor, and facilitator of art therapy groups.

Ashtyn Van Horn, MA

Ashtyn Van Horn, MA earned her Master’s degree in Applied Behavioral Psychology, and a minor in business from St. Francis College. She is currently a doctoral student in the Pepperdine University Clinical PsyD program.

Ms. Van Horn specializes in severe mental illness, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, and substance use disorders. Ms. Van Horn conducts comprehensive psychological assessments, administers specialized assessments to test for autism spectrum disorder and attention-deficit hyperactive disorder, and conducts violence risk assessments using the HCR-20-V3.

Throughout her educational experiences, Ms. Van Horn has had the privilege of training in locked inpatient forensic units for PC 1096, PC 1370, and PC 2972 patients, community mental health, and residential substance use treatment programs for the unhoused, providing both assessment and psychotherapy. Ms. Van Horn has also received training in applied settings, such as the Brooklyn Mental Health Court.
